Lanark – Texel ’23
Texel ram lambs met a record average at the Scottish National show and sale at Lanark, where three lots hit six-figure prices and a further 17 sold at five figures. Overall, 222 ram lambs averaged £5311.25.
Sale topper at 170,000gns was Robert Cockburn’s Knap Grumpy, while his Knap General Lee also broke the six-figure barrier, selling at 100,000gns. The full brothers, sired by the 9000gns Haddo Falcon, both sold to Charlie Boden for his Sportsmans flock.
Another 100,000gns seller was the pre-show champion, Strathbogie Gypsy King, which had stood reserve breed champion at this year’s Royal Highland Show. A son of the 28,000gns Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants, he sold to a consortium from Northern Ireland, including the judge, Richard Henderson, along with Johnny Cubbit, Alastair Gault and Rodger Strawbridge.
Females peaked at 9000gns for a gimmer from James and Ellie Amphlett’s Topwood flock. A Rhaeadr Cracker daughter, she sold to Jed Sharp, Tenbury Wells. Overall, 32 gimmers averaged £1622.58.
