Royal Highland Show ’23 – Cattle Champions
Limousins led the way in the beef inter-breed contests at the Royal Highland, with the cow, Grahams Ruth, from Robert and Jean Graham, being selected as best individual by judge Keith Redpath. Brought out by stockman Stewart Bett and his wife Lynsey, this polled Claragh Franco daughter was shown with her October-born heifer calf at foot.
Taking the reserve overall spot was the Aberdeen-Angus leader, Blelack Princess Carina, a two-year-old heifer from Michael and Melanie Alford of Foxhill Farm, Devon.
In the junior inter-breed, Iain Nimmo’s Limousin heifer Maraiscote Tangerine, was picked out as a clear winner by judge Hamish Goldie, of Dumfries. She is by Sliabh Felim Mourinho. Richard McCornick from Dumfries, stood reserve in the junior inter-breed with the young Charolais bull Ricnick Thor, by Goldstar Gentleman.
The Limosins were back to the fore in the inter-breed teams, triumphing with their team of four from the Grahams, Maraiscote, Whinfellpark and Wilodge herds, while Charolais from AJR Farms, McMurrich Partners, Brailes Livestock and the Hartwrights, finished in reserve position.
In the dairy rings, the inter-breed champion – judged by Hugh Kennedy – was the Holstein, Eedy Crushabull Acclaim, from Brian and Michael Yates, Castle Douglas. A second calver, she is by Oh-River-Syc Crushabull. Reserve went to the Jersey, Kerricks Dakota Belle, a second calver from the Cowhill Trust, Dumfries, sired by Clydevalley Dakota.
