National Blackface Show ’22

The Blackface Sheep Breeders’ Association’s National Show, held at UA’s Stirling Mart, saw an excellent turnout of entries across all variations – North of England, North and South types.

SOUTH TYPE

Judge: Billy Renwick, Craigdouglas, Yarrow

Overall champion – Jubilee Queen, a one-crop ewe from the Ramsay family, Milnmark. Sired by £9000 Grimmet and out of a ewe by £6000 Milnmark, she also stood champion at the Royal Highland

Reserve overall – a gimmer from the Kays, Gass. Sired by £14,000 Craigdarroch, she is out of a ewe by £20,000 Auldhouseburn

Male champion – an aged ram from the Patersons, Dunruchan. Sired by Dalblair Bodyguard and out of a daughter of £52,000 Crossflatt, he was bought at Dalmally last year as a shearling for £5000 from Dalblair. Standing reserve in the males was the shearling ram winner, shown by Angus Kennedy, Mitchellhill, and jointly owned by Malcolm Coubrough. Sired by a Crossflatt loan, he was bought for £9000 from South Cobbinshaw last year

Overall champion – a three-crop ewe from Matthew Hamilton, Woolfords. She is sired by a £2000 Conway ram, bought at Ballymena, out of a home-bred ewe

Reserve overall – a one-crop ewe from Stephen Duncan, Achdregnie. She is by a home-bred son of an £18,000 Calla, out of a ewe by a 4400gns Tom Adams-bred ram

Male champion – a shearling ram from Auchnacloich. Planned for sale at Stirling in October, he is by a £10,000 Woolfords, out of a ewe by an £1800 Hillhead of Morinsh. Reserve male was a ram lamb from Achdregnie, sired by a 5500gns Conway, out of a daughter of a home-bred ram

Reserve overall – a shearling ram from West Deanraw. He is a son of the champion, out of a ewe by a £3600 Carrick

Female champion – a gimmer from Jamie Murray, Sewingshields. She’s sired by a £17,000 Kirkstead, out of a Westhills ewe

Reserve female – a three- crop ewe from Selby Robson, Yatesfield. A daughter of a £1300 Larg, Creetown, she is out of a home-bred dam
