Textravaganza National Show – Carlisle

The Texel Society’s inaugural National Show – Textravaganza – was a fantastic success at Carlisle, with top quality sheep on show from flocks across the UK. The female section was particularly strong, with the overall champion and reserve coming from the gimmer class.

Having judged the females and males separately, John MacGregor and Richard Henderson, joined forces to decide the overall champions. They agreed on Robert Cockburn’s female champion as best overall – an outstanding gimmer from his 35-ewe Knap flock at Hill of Errol, Perthshire. She is sired by the 17,000gns Sportsmans Cannonball, bought jointly last year, while the dam is a home-bred daughter of Mullan Amigo.

Reserve supreme was the second prize gimmer, a daughter of the 65,000gns Garngour Craftsman, from the Bodens’ Sportsmans flock. She is out of a ewe by Knockem Abracadabra.

Male champion was a ram lamb from the McKerrow family – Nochnary Eusebio, a Tamnamoney Dalrida son, out of a ewe by Knock Banker. The reserve male title went to the second prize ram lamb, Holtridge El Primo, a Mellor Vale Dakota son from David Dunlop’s Cheshire-based flock.
