Stars Of The Future Nov ’19
A great show of youngstock was on display at the 10th annual Stars of the Future Show at Stirling Mart, with 10 breeds represented throughout the day.
The continental senior section was won by the Limousin bull, Westpit Orlando, from Andrew Gammie, Drumforber, Laurencekirk. Planned for sale at Carlisle in February, he is an embryo calf out of Brockhurst Holy and sired by Goldies Jackpot. Reserve was Andrew Hornall’s 16-month-old Charolais bull, Falleninch Obby, a Fairway Jefferson son which he hopes to sell at Stirling in February.
The junior continental section was led by the Salers bull – on the breed’s debut at the event. That was Bacardi Orleans, a son of the French-bred, Magnificent, from Roy and Adam Crockett, Denholm, Hawick. His dam, Bacardi Lexi, has recently been sold privately. Standing reserve was the Charolais heifer, Newlogie Princesslaika, from AJR Farms’ herd, managed by Andrew Reid at Milton of Collieston, Ellon. She was bought as an embryo from France, out of Laika, while the sire is Harestone Jaquard, the 2018 Highland Show breed champion.
Overall senior native was the Beef Shorthorn bull, Eskechraggan Masterstroke, a Tamhorn Glen son, out of Knovkenjig Tessa, owned by Tom McMillan, Isle of Bute, and shown by Richard and Carol Rettie. Reserve there was the Highland bull, Harry 2nd of Gartocharn, from Jim and Catherine McKechnie, which will be for sale at Oban in February. He’s a son of Brogach 2nd of Balmoral and out of Morag 44th of Woodneuk.
Best in the junior natives was the 10-month-old Aberdeen-Angus heifer calf, Tonley Lady Heather, from Neil Wattie’s herd at Mains of Tonley, Alford. Show by son Mark, she is by the 19,000gns Blelack Evermore and out of the bought-in cow, Blelack Lady Heather. Reserve was Tom and Di Henderson’s Hereford heifer, Moralee 1 Katy Perry, from Stocksfield, Northumberland. She is sired by the Danish import, SMH Kingsize87k.
The inter-breed contests were judged by Adrian Ivory and Dennis Gall.
