Lanark – Texel
Texel ram lambs sold to a whopping 70,000gns at the Scottish National show and sale at Lanark yesterday, with a total of 16 lots hitting five-figures.
Sale leader was Teiglum Young Gun, from brothers Alan, Andrew and David Clark, of North Garngour, Lesmahagow. Sired by Teiglum Windfall, he is out of the gimmer that took the breed championship at the Royal Highland and the inter-breed sheep title at the Great Yorkshire, this summer. Buyers were the Procters flock, managed by Jeff Aiken at Wennington, Lancashire and Charlie Boden’s Sportsmans flock at Stockport.
Overall, 351 lambs sold to average £2812.24, an increase of £500 on the year, but for 33 fewer sold.
Gimmers sold to a top of 13,000gns, with the reserve female champion leading the trade for John Mellin, Hull House, Hellifield, Skipton. A Garngour Vodka daughter, out of a ewe by Sportsmans Terrific, this one stood third at the Great Yorkshire last month. She sold to Ayrshire breeders Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk. Overall, 72 gimmers sold to average £1303.31.
