Lanark – Blackface Females
Blackface females met a strong trade at Lanark on Saturday. Despite averages being back £290 on the year, 17 more were sold compared to 2015 and prices peaked at 5000gns.
Making top price was a gimmer from John and Charlie Harkin, Loughash, a daughter of a £3000 Dalchirla, out of a ewe by McRae. Due with a single to £20,000 Loughash, she sold to C Gallacher, Cattry, Ballybofey, Co Donegal.
Leading the ewe trade at 3600gns, was the first prize winner in the ewe class, a daughter of Geewhiz, from Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth. Out of a ewe by a son of a £13,000 Midlock and due with twins to the Beast, this three-crop ewe sold to Alastair MacArthur, Nunnerie, Elvanfoot, Biggar.
Averages: Overall, 68 BF females, £1354.04 (-£290 for 17 more sold). 42 gimmers, £1350 (+£49 for seven more); 26 ewes, £1360.56 (-£956 for 11 more).
