Blelack Charolais – Autumn Calving Dispersal – Carlisle

Next week at Carlisle sees the dispersal of the Autumn calving portion of the Blelack Charolais herd – a fantastic opportunity to acquire some of the breed’s most sought after bloodlines. Included in the sale are 33 cows & heifers served and/or suckling (27 calves) and nine in-calf heifers.

Neil Massie established the Charolais herd at Blelack more than 40 years ago and during that time has produced some of the best known cattle in the breed, such as the Perth Champion Blelack Equity in 1991 which sold for 21,000gns. At the Carlisle Christmas Cracker sales, there have been three Blelack champions, selling for 9,000gns, 10,000gns & 12,000gns. Neil, along with son Graeme, have also produced some fantastic strings of bulls, such as the eight Maerdy Victorious sons that in the early 1980s averaged more than 5000gns.

Blelack breeding can be found in many of the top UK herds, and the herd has produced the highest number of champions at Perth and Stirling bull sales. Whilst photographing the top priced animals at every sale, we always have a string of Blelack bulls heading out for a photo shoot.

This spring, the Stirling line up of eight Charolais bulls had the top average of £10,080, including the junior champion Blelack Imperialist, which sold for 14,000gns to the Burradon and Thrunton herds.

After 30 years of Pedigree breeding, Graeme has decided to sell the 448 acre Blelack Farm along with the Aberdeen-Angus, Charolais and Shorthorn herds of cows and followers. His children Jack and Hayley, do not wish to pursue a career in farming so Graeme felt now is the best time to make the move. For further information on this sale, check out CKD Galbraith website.
