
Orkney – Dounby & County Shows
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Orkney last week – the Island is renowned for its top quality livestock and the Dounby and County Shows did not disappoint, with some terrific stock on display and a lovely, friendly atmosphere. As you’ll see from the pictures, there was a slight variation in the weather at the two shows!

Dounby Show

Overall in the cattle section, Hekra Holly, from the Coghill family of Muce, Birsay

Reserve overall in the cattle was this Limousin cross heifer calf, Penny Black, a Millbrow Fellsman daughter from Liam and Sheena Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness.

Overall male champion in the cattle, the Shorthorn bull Lagas Gigolo, from Laga Farms, Evie

Overall sheep, the Beltex gimmer, Orkney Tinkerbell, from the Copland family, Overhouse, Harray. She went onto stand reserve overall sheep at the County Show
County Show

Overall cattle champion, the Aberdeen-Angus heifer, Cardona Jilt, from the Baillie family, Sebay, Tankerness

Reserve overall cattle champion was this Limousin cross heifer calf by Proctors Cavalier, from Balfour Baillie, Sebay, Tankerness

The Shorthorn champion, Nearhouse Justine 2nd, from JM Lennie, Nearhouse, Tankerness

Overall sheep, the Texel champion, a ewe lamb by Cairness United from Ivan Scott, Hill of Heddle, Finstown

Overall horse was this four-year-old Clydesdale mare, Downhill Snowflake, from Ian Smith, Holburn, Kirkwall
