
Royal Highland Show – Sheep Champions
We’ve had a busy but enjoyable four days at the Royal Highland Show, and photographed some excellent livestock for the Society. Here are all the sheep breed champions.

Supreme sheep champion, J Runciman and Sons, Allanshaws, Galashiels, with a home-bred NCC gimmer by the past Highland Show champion, Synton Bulls Eye

Reserve supreme sheep, Ian Murray, East Horton, Wooler, with Glenway Universe, a home-bred Texel shearling ram by Allanfauld Rockafella

Second reserve, the Blackface from Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth, a home-bred shearling by a £60,000 Dalchirla sire

Charollais champion – Trevor Bell, Ballynichel Road, Comber, Co Down, with Lornbrook Nutcracker, a home-bred shearling by Gognell Kicking King

Suffolk champion – Judith and Iain Barbour, Rosefield, Annan, with last year’s Suffolk champion, a two-crop ewe by the 12,000gns Rhaeadr Rastifari

Bluefaced Leicester champion – Jimmy and Wendy Bell, Whelphill, Crawford, with a home-bred gimmer by a tup bought in Ballymena, E1 Orraview

Scotch Mule champion – RJ Shennan and Sons, Farden, Turnberry, with a home-bred ewe lamb by E1 Old Tinnis

Border Leicester champion – Jim Brown, Eildon Cottage, Mindrum Mill, with a home-bred three-crop ewe by Eildon Ultimo Regalis

Commercial champion – Andrew Baillie, Carstairs Mains, Lanark, with a Millenium Bleu gimmer, by Clary Pink Panther

Ryeland champion – Colin Arthur, Greenaton, Carnwath, with Broomwell Supernatural, a two-shear tup by Broomwell Johnny Depp

North Country Cheviot Hill champion – WD Allen, Stouphill, Alnwick, with a home-bred three-crop ewe, by Stouphill Katie’s Boy

Swaledale champion – S Bell and Sons, Gill Gate, Leyburn, with a two-crop ewe by a £3500 Overthwaite tup

Zwartbles champion – Andrew Baillie, Broomfield Lodge, Ashgill, with Broomfield Trickster, a home-bred three-shear tup by an imported ram

North of England Mule champion – Ron and Fran Wilson, Carrholme, Armathwaite, with a gimmer bred by Henry Ridley, Woodhall

Shetland champion – Patrick, Denise and Alex Playfair, Stichell Eastfield, Kelso, with Kaimknowe Gorgeous George, a two-shear white tup by Fieldview Wizard

Berrichon Du Cher champion – Arabella Johnston, Kirkton Farm, Bothkennar, Falkirk, with Kirkton Mercury, a two-shear tup by Kirkton Jupiter

Hebridean champion – Charles and Kath Heely, Brinfop Hall Farm, Bolton, with Cinderhill Jotun, a three-shear ram by Cinderhill Ivor

Bleu Du Maine champion – Laine Daff, Greenside, Uplawmoor, Renfrewshire, with a three-crop ewe, bought at Carlisle as a gimmer

Beltex champion – Mary, Andrew and Michael Dunlop, Corstane, Broughton, Biggar, with a shearling ram, Skiddaw View Trapper

British Rouge champion – John and Ian Teasdale, High Farm, Pockley, with a home-bred two-crop ewe, by a Sunrise sire

Hampshire Down champion – Richard and Grant Brand, East Fortune Farm, North Berwick, with East Fortune Angus, a three-shear ram by Thorbeck Thor

Lleyn champion – David Henderson and Becka MacLeod, Nether Toucks, Stonehaven, with a home-bred shearling by a Carlisle-bought tup

Cheviot champion – Norman and David Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow, with a home-bred two-crop ewe by the £8000 Stirkfield Senator
