Royal Highland Show ’25 – Cattle
It was a Royal Highland show to remember for Stirling-based Andrew Hornall, of Falleninch, who won his third Charolais breed championship at the event with the home-bred bull, Falleninch Tommy, which then went onto be crowned supreme beef cattle champion by judge John Jeffrey, Kersknowe, Kelso, who praised his ‘power and presence’.
The young Charolais heifer, Falleninch Valentina added to the success by winning the overall junior inter-breed title. And, ensuring more celebrations, Stephen Taylor, who prepares and shows the Falleninch cattle, later won the coveted SAYFC Stockman of the Year title.
Taking reserve in the inter-breed cattle contest was Mosshall Red Essence, a red Angus cow, with bull calf at foot, from George and Nikki Taylor, Bathgate, brought out by stockman James Reid.
Reserve junior was the Limousin bull, Anside UFO, from the Irvine family, Anside, Keith.
The Limousins also won the inter-breed teams of four and the beef pairs, with reserve team going to the Salers and reserve in the pairs also going to the Salers. In the native team contest, it was the Highland group that took the champion ticket, with the Beef Shorthorns in reserve.
In the overall dairy championship, it was the Holstein winner that came to the fore to lift the title. That was MAG Pandor, from the Laird family of Blythbridge, jointly owned with Ferme Blondin, Quebec, Canada. This fourth-calver has an amazing show record, having now won the Royal Highland two years running, and also the Borderway UK Dairy Expo twice.
Standing reserve inter-breed dairy champion was the Red and White champion Logan Latenite Shania Red, from the Yates family, East Logan, Castle Douglas
In the dairy groups, it was again the Holsteins winning over the Red and Whites, with the Holstein team including MAG Pandor, Clydeview Sidekick Matilda, Berryholme Chief Rose and Wolfa Lambda Ivy, and the Red and Whites consisting of Logan Latenite Shania Red, Logan Avatar Rae Red, Moozik Aladdin Stella Red and Logan Power Tabitha Red.
