Stars of the Future – Stirling – Nov ’25
A fantastic turnout of quality youngstock made for another successful Stars of the Future calf show at United Auctions’ Stirling Mart.
This year’s event culminated in a new supreme championship, with the Maimie Paterson Memorial shield being won by the 16-month-old Limousin bull, Goldies Vista, a Burnbank Segeant son from Bruce and Linda Goldie, son Thomas and daughter Isla, Mouswald, Dumfries, who were exhibiting at Stars for the first time. Vista is destined for sale at the forthcoming February round of bull sales.
Inter-breed judge, Philip Hallhead, of Norbreck Genetics in Lancaster, was impressed by the bull’s ‘great style’, adding: “He glided around the ring, with that extra bit of length and power.”
Reserve overall was the junior champion, an 11-month-old Charolais heifer, Arradfoot Agnes, from Thor Atkinson, Ulverston. Sired by the privately bought Tophill Oscar, this heifer was brought out by stockman Steven O’Kane, who plans to show her extensively next summer.
Reserve to that one in the junior inter-breed contest was the April-born Aberdeen Angus heifer, Ladyluck Karisma B264, from Nicola Howie, Parkgate, Dumfries, while reserve in the senior section was Kevin Watret’s 13-month-old British Blue heifer, Solway View Ultraviolet.
The Joe Watson Memorial pairs competition was won by the top continental pair, a Limousin duo from Robert and Jean Graham, Airthry Kerse. They were embryo brothers, Grahams Vito and Grahams Virgil, both Ampertaine Elgin sons set for sale at Carlisle in February. Reserve to that team in the continental pairs contest were Dougie McBeath and Sarah Jane Jessop’s Springsett Victory and Springsett Valentina, Limousin bulls from Lower Green Yards, Bannockburn.
Top native pair were the Highlanders, Bonnie Matilda of Moorside and Faith of Moorside, both from Robert and Dianne Bradley, Moorside, Bradford. Reserve native pair were the Aberdeen-Angus duo, Keirsbeath Prescot B613 and Keirsbeath Prince B615, from Caroline Morton, Low Merryton, Larkhall.
Winning the prize for best group of three, were a trio of black commercial heifers including a Limousin cross from the Robertson family, of Fodderletter, Tomintoul, which was shown alongside Starburst, a Limousin cross from Allan and Susan Campbell, Crawlaw, Hurlford, and Bonnie Blue, a British Blue cross from the Hamiltons of Mid Shawtonhill, Chapelton. The Limousin trio of Goldies Vista, Glenrock Versace and Grahams Vavavoom, finished in reserve.
A huge entry of young handlers saw the overall award going to the winner of the senior section, 19-year-old Katie Aitken, while the best of the juniors, 11-year-old Elliw Grug Davies, took reserve.
